Watchful and Patient
When you engage in combat in a place thoroughly scouted ahead of time, or against an opponent you’ve been watching carefully, you have 2-armor for the duration of that fight.
Break and Enter
You are talented at gaining access to places you have no business being. When you attempt to enter or exit such a place, roll
+Intuition. On a 10+, choose 3. On a 7-9, choose 2:
-You get where you wanted to be
-You remain undetected while getting there.
-You leave no trace of ever having been there
-You stumble across something useful or interesting along the way.
When you hack a
+cyberbrain or a
+virtual person in a charged situation roll
+Cognition. On a 10+, hold 3. On a 7-9, hold 1. You can spend your hold 1 for 1 at any time to…
-Make the target’s attack miss its mark – it strikes someone other than the intended target, or a wall, or the ground.
-Extract one discrete piece of information from the target.
-Impress, dismay, or frighten the target.
-Overload the target. Inflict 2 trauma per hold spent.
-Take over their body (
+puppet sock only). They can try to resist by rolling
+Willpower in subsequent rounds. 10+ throws off your control, 7-9 contests control, and failure leaves control in your hands.
Name somebody who might conceivably eat, drink, breathe or otherwise ingest something you’ve touched and roll
+Cognition. On a 10+, they do, and become Dead in some nasty way sometime during the next 24 hours. On a 7-9, they’re merely badly injured or out of action. On a miss, some several people of the GM’s choice, maybe including your guy maybe not, get it, and all become Unconscious.
You look at every situation with a tactical eye, and are commonly prepared for most surprises. When you declare retroactively that you’ve already set something up, roll
+Cognition. On a 10+ it’s just as you say. On a 7-9, you set it up but here at the crucial moment the GM can introduce some hitch or delay. On a miss, you set it up, but since then things you don’t know about have seriously changed.
You have developed an extensive network of allies and contacts who can provide help or resources in a pinch. When you take this move, choose one:
Your contacts respect intelligence. Roll
+Cognition when contacting them.
At the beginning of the session, or as soon thereafter as you are in a position to do so, you may contact your network and roll the appropriate stat. On a 10+, hold 3. On a 7-9, hold 1. You may spend your hold anytime during that session, 1 for 1, to:
-Get something done: find one or more contacts to accomplish an off-screen task
-Lean on someone: convince a character as if you’d rolled a 10+ on negotiate
-Gather intel: learn something about a subject as if you’d rolled a 10+ on access the mesh
-Borrow Resources: gain temporary access to an item, morph, piece of equipment, or service
On a miss, your network needs a favor in return. Lose access to this move until you satisfy them.

Estelle was right. She was right and I should have listened to her. I knew she’d say so too. She’d wake up and be real mad, but I’d apologize and remind her how long it’s been since I fucked up this bad.
And she’d forgive me like she always has. Whatever. She’s an actress. The dramatic type. But beautiful and smart. With the biggest laugh you’ve ever heard.
She’s been here since the beginning – since I moved to Gerlach to start my new gig at the Lacuna Corporation. Lacuna is all about cognitive experimentation and the project I’m on is to help the scientists and medical types figure out how people deal with trauma. And how to make it better. There’s a whole lot of trauma out there as it is, but what they do is they fabricate it. They pay poor, desperate people a lot of money to be their lab rats. The lab rat gets an alpha fork made and put into storage, then has his backup resleeved into a new body – but with a traumatic memory or two spliced in. They put the now traumatized rat into a different scenario every time, with different variables and controls to see how far they can push them before they have a meltdown. But Estelle isn’t one of the variables. She’s the femme fatale. Sexy and mysterious, but with a smile that lights up the room. They fall for it every time.
I think it was pretty damn good of me to stand by and watch her seduce all those idiots. I didn’t get jealous once.
Anyway, my job was to watch them as Estelle wove her web of deception and made them fall for her. They always snapped. I just had to make sure I neutralized them before they really hurt anybody. Especially Estelle. Once the lab rat snapped and got put down by yours truly (a failed experiment), their alpha fork got activated and walked away with a nice chunk of change and without a couple months of their memory. Fair trade, I’d say.
I’ll admit Estelle didn’t like me much at first – I got it wrong a few times when I was just starting out. She didn’t like waking up and finding out the lab rat had killed her, or had someone else kill her and that I failed to stop it. Eventually though, I got real good at it. I saw the signs early – the signs that the lab rat had snapped and was about to do something real bad. I got Estelle out of some pretty bad situations. No shit she fell in love with me. I was her knight in shining armor. I still fucked up sometimes, but rarely.
This time was different though. Damn actresses.
She knew he’d snapped before I did. She told me so, but I thought we could give it another few days. The lab rat tried to kill her, but botched the job before making a run for it. He landed Estelle in the hospital in a real bad state. Lacuna was going to put her out of her misery and just resleeve her most recent backup like they always do. She didn’t want that though. She said she’d had enough and she wanted to quit – and not just Lacuna. They were still going to put her out of her misery all right, but first she had them destroy her recent backups.
Then she had them resleeve the backup she made before she met me.
Fucking actresses. Who does that? Nearly two years of her life gone. My Estelle is gone and the new one is starting over without me. Shit. I’m not even an unhappy memory. She doesn’t even know I exist.
It only took them a few weeks to replace Estelle. They said they got someone with better training. Nora. She’s all business. Hasn’t smiled once since I met her.
I’m starting to think I’m not cut out for this line of work.
