All My Vices Are Devices
At the beginning of game, roll+Resources. On a 10+, hold 3. On a 7-9, hold 1. You can spend your hold 1 for 1, at any time, to have a piece of tech useful to whatever situation you find yourself in – either on-hand, or somewhere you can get at it without too much trouble. This won’t get you weapons, but it might get you just about anything else man-portable and high-tech.

Body Hopper
You never need to roll integration, alienation, and continuity as a result of voluntary resleeving. Resleeving after death, or being restored from backup requires integration, alienation, and continuity as normal.

When you seek to subvert a non-informorph computer system or electronic security measures, roll+Intuition. On a 10+, choose 3. On a 7-9, choose 2. On a miss, choose 1 anyway. Boosted for this roll (due to Expertise)

  • You get into the system or past the security
  • You don’t alert anyone to your intrusion
  • You leave no trace behind
  • You don’t permanently damage something important

Expertise: Hacking
Boosted for all hacking roles.

Cyberbrain Hacking
When you hack a cyberbrain or a +virtual person in a charged situation rollCognition. On a 10+, hold 3. On a 7-9, hold 1. You can spend your hold 1 for 1 at any time to…

  • Make the target’s attack miss its mark – it strikes someone other than the intended target, or a wall, or the ground.
  • Extract one discrete piece of information from the target.
  • Impress, dismay, or frighten the target.
  • Overload the target. Inflict 2 damage per hold spent.
  • Take over their body (puppet sock only). They can try to resist by rollingWillpower in subsequent rounds. 10+ throws off your control, 7-9 contests control, and failure leaves control in your hands.

You cannot use this move if you have unspent hold from this move.

Oooh, Shiny
When presented with an object of curiosity that you really shouldn’t poke at, or a shiny object you probably shouldn’t steal, and you poke it or steal it anyway to your potential detriment or that of your group, mark Experience.

Selected: Cargo Hold, High-Tech Gadgets, Advanced Tools
You are skilled with your hands and can fix, repair, or build pretty much anything. You have a dedicated workspace for larger projects, and an ability to repair things on the fly.

When you go into your workspace and dedicate yourself to making a thing, or to getting to the bottom of something technological, decide what you’re doing and tell the GM. The GM will tell you “sure, no problem, but…” and then 1 to 4 of the following:

  • It’s going to take hours/days/weeks/months of work
  • First you’ll have to get/build/fix/figure out (something)
  • You’re going to need (someone) to help you with it
  • It’s going to cost you a ton of resources
  • The best you’ll be able to do is a crap version, weak and unreliable
  • It’s going to mean exposing yourself and colleagues to serious danger
  • You’re going to have to add (something) to your workspace first
  • It’s going to take several/dozens/hundreds of tries
  • You’re going to have to take (something) apart to do it.

The GM might connect them all with “and,” or might throw in a merciful “or.” Once you’ve accomplished the necessaries, you can go ahead and accomplish the thing itself.

You can repair synthetic morphs with this move.

Impossible Reflexes
The way you move unencumbered counts as armor. If you’re naked or nearly naked, 2-armor; if you’re wearing non-armor fashion, 1-armor. If you’re wearing armor, use it instead.

It’s not that I’m ungrateful. But being an uplift creates some complicated relationships — with humans, with myself, with my criminal cartel.

I was uplifted by Cognite, just another batch of neo-Ravens for whatever their latest experiment was. It’s not like they tell us these things. I don’t really remember how long I worked for them as an indenture. Time meant something different in those early days, when I was still figuring all this shit out. But it couldn’t have been that long before my indenture was purchased. Terminated? Completed? Transferred? Stolen? Whatever. Blackvein isn’t big on giving out details, and it doesn’t seem that wise to ask. Plus, he doesn’t really hold indentures per se, instead sticking with our kind of social structure: “I’m dominant, and now you owe me.” Fair enough.

So, through whatever fortune or misfortune, I landed on Parvarti with Blackvein’s crew. A whole lot of neo-Ravens, fucking with each other to get on top, cowing to Blackvein who manages to stay on top. It felt like home.

The work was pretty good. I got good at managing complex systems—hacking, building machinery, that kind of thing—and made a good run of it doing that work for Blackvein. I mostly even avoided doing free-lance work or fucking with his interests. Mostly. I mean, I did about the best you can expect one of us to do.

The problem came when, one day, I woke up in the offices of Egonomics with a new, human kid morph and no recollection of why I was there, what happened to my body, or why I wasn’t with my family. I can only assume something went really wrong. I was indentured to these humans and stuck with a shit job.

I got a few breaks here and there—made a couple allies, got a couple promotions. Even got this sweet Menton morph. It isn’t the same as my old body, but I’m still working on a way to get my wings back. I just wish I knew what happened, and whether I should worry about what I did to Blackvein to land myself here. Plus, it’s kind of lonely. These humans and uplifts I work with—heck, even the Parrots—don’t understand how social structures work. You should have seen the look on Galina’s face when I fucked her over for a promotion. She won’t even talk to me anymore, which is ridiculous—I won fair and square.

So, here I am, trying to play nice. I’ve managed to make and keep a few friends. I continue to get fucked over by this company, but they’ll regret that. I’m going to get free of this and figure out what happened. Maybe even get back to my kind, maybe even a bit higher up on the pecking order.

**Update: It seems I forked myself in order to help take down a rival cartel’s main base of operations on Venus. I got in contact with…myself…and had a nice chat. I think I’ve even convinced her not to try to kill me.

My mission for Blackvein turned out to be something that interested the Morningstar Constellation as well, so we brokered a pretty neat wrap-up to the whole affair. They both seemed pleased, and it even seems like there might be some common ground for me to walk—Morningstar is supporting the devil they know, and my devil knows how to use that to his advantage. Undoubtedly in ways the government won’t want.

Blackvein offered me an out, to walk away free and clear. He was probably as sincere as such an offer can really be, but I’m not sure a solo life of do-gooding for the government is quite the life for me. And frankly, I’ve been with Blackvein a whole lot longer, and I owe him a lot more — taking advantage of my new social status seems like a much better pay-off for years of wondering why I was screwed. Besides, I really want to know what my other self knows.

I suspect neither group is really going to trust me so long as I have ties to both, but trust is one of those overrated human emotions. No one knows that better than Blackvein. Being valuable is a surer way to the top.
